Christmas in July: Day 31

Well, here we are at the end of Christmas in July. It has been such fun to read your posts. I always come away inspired and this year is no exception.

As the countdown states, only 21 weeks until Christmas. I don't know about you but I'm ready to get into gear to have a stress-free holiday season!

Christmas in July: Day 30

I've begun a new "tradition" the past few years. As Christmas in July comes to a close, I prepare meals from our pantry and freezer to clear them out.

If you're like me, you stock up on staples that go on sale throughout the year. Next thing I know I have way too many cans of soup, green beans, and pounds of frozen ground beef.

Now is the time to eat your way through those items to make room for the supplies you'll need for holiday meals and baking.

The added benefit is that when your pantry and freezer are practically empty they're easy to clean!

By the time September rolls around I'll be ready to start stocking supplies for Fall and Winter holidays as well as family events.

For me, it's a good way to transition from the first part of the year to the last.

Christmas in July: Day 29

Some assembly required.

These words strike terror not only in the heart of parents working feverishly on Christmas Eve to get toys ready for Christmas morning. They also strike terror in the heart of stitchers.

Here are two stockings that I've finished stitching for this year which still need to be assembled. I'll post the absolutely finished project hopefully in September...

Christmas in July: Day 27

This is the time of year that I really start to get excited for the holidays. The kids are (almost) back in school, the grandkid birthday season has come to an end for this year, the weather is getting cooler (well, not really, that won't happen until October for us!). My thoughts turn more and more to Christmas.

I've felt restless and unorganized the past few years when it comes to the holidays. I finally decided last year that it was caused by me planning the holidays for a family of 10, when we've grown to a family of 16.

This year I'm reorganizing in some areas, getting rid of some traditions that no longer work for us, and planning a fresh look by changing up my decor.

I spend a few minutes each day dreaming of what I want it to look like this year. Then I jot down some notes to be revisited in November.

One thing I'm very aware of is that I don't need to buy any Christmas decor. I have tons and I'm eager to see how I can re-purpose some of it. I believe that everything old can seem new again!

As Christmas in July draws to a close where are you in your Christmas planning? Have you made decisions this month that you'll implement in December?

Christmas in July: Day 26

I'm really in the mood to change up my Christmas decor. I generally have the same look for several years and then go with a "fresh" look when the mood strikes me.

Here are some decor ideas that inspire me:

I love anything vintage!

This is such an elegant yet simple look.

Christmas in July: Day 25

I love Hallmark Christmas movies!

Can you believe it? Christmas is five months from today! Time to get serious about planning for my stress-free Christmas.

This week I'm sorting the stocking stuffers I've purchased into the bags I keep for each person on my list. I'm also wrapping the presents I've already purchased. I updated "wish lists" for the Grands and will start in on the adults in August.

I find myself imagining the placement of Christmas trees and other decor as I do my "Post-Grammy Summer Camp" cleaning.

And, of course, I'm stitching feverishly to finish this year's Christmas stockings as I watch listen to Hallmark Christmas movies!

Yes, the anticipation is starting to build in my home...

Christmas in July: Day 21

I decided to have the grandkids make the gifts for their parents during Grammy's Summer Camp Christmas in July. Last week we worked on one gift. We still need to create the gift bags and make a gift for the other parent. Plus I have three other Grands in town that need to make gifts. At least we're off to a good start!

Christmas in July: Day 18

I have a front patio, but I don't have a front porch. I wish I did. I love porches, especially if they have a swing. Today I'm dreaming of how I would decorate my porch, if I had one, for Christmas:

Christmas is coming, you must have been expecting the big holiday season and want to give a great closure point for the winter! Then it’s time to dress up your holiday home and make its best. Besides interior decor, you need to pay attention to exterior. Christmas in July: Day 16

I have purchased a couple of new decor items this summer. There's nothing more enjoyable when the temps are 110+ than going to Hobby Lobby and walking up and down each and every aisle of the Fall and Christmas merchandise. And, as I learned a long time ago, if you see something you want, buy it. It probably won't be there the next time you shop!

Christmas in July: Day 14

Here are the ornaments I picked up for myself yesterday at Hallmark.

It is my tradition to purchase an ornament for my "Grammy" tree for the year a new grandchild is born. This ornament is for Winter, born in January 2019.

I've been collecting this lighthouse series. I love to see them light up when they're plugged into the Magic Cord.

These are also for the Grammy tree.

I saw this one on a commercial on Friday when I was watching Christmas movies on Hallmark Mysteries and Movies Channel. I just had to get it!

This is the final ornament in a series I'm collecting.

Another ornament for the Grammy tree.

Christmas in July: Day 13

It's finally here! Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Premiere Weekend. There was a short line outside of my local Hallmark store in morning. The event was well organized as always. Stand in line to get into store. Stand in line to pick up ornaments. Stand in line to pay. You meet so many nice people waiting in these lines and the time just flies past.

For the 2nd year they were giving the ornaments out in reusable bags. Very cute! I had been preparing for this event and had $44.00 in coupons and discounts to take off my total. I received $5 for every $50 spent on ornaments and punch cards with additional future savings for the total number of ornaments I purchased.

Here are the ornaments I picked up. I will pick up more in October and again in December. I'll highlight the ones I bought for myself later this week.

I LOVE Ornament Premiere Weekend! It always ramps up my Christmas spirit.

Christmas in July: Day 12

Yippee! Two more weeks of Christmas movies courtesy of the Hallmark Channel. I've been watching the Christmas movies on Hallmark Mysteries & Movies and now I'm ready to switch channels.

These movies are perfect for me to stitch to. I don't have to keep my eyes on the screen to be able to follow the story. I can sit and stitch and listen!

Tomorrow is the Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Premiere. I will be at my local Hallmark store at 8 am to pick up my pre-ordered ornaments. I am so excited!

Christmas in July: Day Eight

KEEP CALM AND START YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING - created by eleni

Christmas Shopping! I am working my way through wish lists and making good progress. My goal is to get one family member completed so I can make a Snowman gift tower. I want to be sure I know how to do it and am satisfied with the result.

I have shared my Shopping List many times on this blog. Even though I do also use a Christmas shopping log app on my phone, I still fill out my original list. There's just something more fun about pen and paper to me.

My list has grown since this photo was taken a few years ago, but the concept is the same. I list each person across the top. As I purchase a gift, I wrap it and place a gift tag on it. I write the gift on the list along with the cost. Then I highlight it to show that it's wrapped.

I have several clear tubs that I keep the wrapped gifts in until they go under the tree at Thanksgiving.

The yellow cells at the bottom of the list indicated stocking stuffers.

Now that our little family has grown to 16, this list is a life saver. It's an easy way for me to see at a glance where I'm at in the Christmas shopping process. When I've spent the budget allowed for each person I actually write "DONE" at the bottom of the list!

Whatever your Christmas shopping plan is, now is a good time to begin. There are so many sales right now. And I always take advantage of the Back to School sales to buy crayons, pens, markers, colored pencils, etc. for stocking stuffers for the Grands.

Only 170 days to go...

Christmas in July: Day 7

I must be getting older. Or maybe it's that my family has gotten large enough that they take a lot of my time and attention. Or maybe I've just grown tired of certain "traditions" and I'm ready to change things up.

Whatever the reason, I'm seriously rethinking my Christmas trees. I've had multiple trees for the past 10+ years and I do enjoy them. But decorating all of them is starting to wear on me. This year I find myself actually dreading it a little. So... I'm thinking of what to do that would be new and fresh. I do not want to dread anything about the holiday season.

In recent years I've had the 9-ft main tree, the purple "grammy" tree, the office tree, the blue snowman tree, the white pastel tree, and a couple of very small trees in other rooms. I definitely don't want to get rid of the main, the office, or the grammy tree, but I'm thinking I'd like to change the others.

Our son's family from Kansas will be with us this year and that means a 2-year old and an 11 month old will be roaming the house. This seems like a good time to move things around so they won't be accessible to little hands.

I haven't made any decisions yet. I guess you'll have to wait for my December posts to see what I ended up with.

I'm actually feeling excited to make some changes...

The 9-ft color changing tree - I love it!

Christmas in July: Day 6

A few years ago we visited Solvang, CA. If you've never been there, it's a quaint little town tucked up in the mountains north of LA. There are lots of Danish style shops, hotels, and restaurants.

I bought several Christmas items there, including two German Advent Calendars. They are so beautiful (this picture does not do justice to the beauty). I've been saving them to use with the Grands. This year the older ones have enough finger dexterity to open the windows and tear them off with ripping them. I'm letting them take turns to reveal the picture underneath as part of our Christmas in July at Grammy's Summer Camp.

I'll probably save the other one for next July. I'm wishing I had bought more!
